The techno-friendliness of their Principal has won Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mesra (Ranchi) students a state-of-the-art Robo Centre in the school. This centre will help students to perform laboratory tests not only related to their class and subject, but will also help curious students take their curiosity to the next level through allowing them to carry on advanced experiments. Also, JNV Mesra is the only Navodaya Vidyalaya from Jharkhand among 25 such Navodaya Vidyalayas in the country to have a Robo Centre in first phase, making it a resource centre for rest Navodaya Vidyalayas of the State.
Giving details about the centre, JNV Mesra Principal DK Modi said that the entire expense of some Rs 22-25 lakh will be borne by India Stem Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation which establishes such centres. “The centre will have experiment facilities related to Computer Science, Science, Technology, Electronics and Mathematics (CS-STEM) for different classes and faculties as well. It will judge the science related curiosity of students and help them take their curiosity to the next level. This kind of infrastructure is something which is missing badly at secondary level schools across country except only few those which are advanced in real terms,” said Modi.
India Stem Foundation promotes Robotics in experiments and attracts more and more students to encourage experiments in the field of STEM. Modi added that techno-friendliness of Principals played pivotal role in getting selected for Robo Centre. “All the 25 JNVs which have been chosen for Robo Centres have a tech-friendly Principal running those schools. I am a Ph.D. in Mathematics with much interest in technology. I have transferred to Ranchi JNV from Bokaro only recently. If I were in Bokaro, the Robo Centre would have gone to Bokaro in place of Ranchi. So, it is a matter of pride for me as well,” said Modi.
The Centre will have technical staff and other skilled professionals from Singapore and other parts of the world equally, as provided by India Stem Foundation, Modi said. “The Centre will also provide financial assistance to extra-meritorious students in the field of Science, Technology, Electronics and Mathematics once they finish their secondary level education from JNV. My personal effort will be to get my students as much involved in study through experiments as possible, as my personal belief is that students learn much faster with experiments done than reading theories alone,” said Modi. However, the time-frame of this centre being operational remains coded so far.
