JMM up in arms over land Acquisition Bill

The JMM activists on Monday staged a massive demonstration and blocked the district collectorate gate for nearly an hour, thereby, causing traffic jam on the busy Subernarekha link Road. The JMM party workers raised slogans against Union Government for bringing the land Acquisition Amendment Bill and against NDA-led State Government for failing to declare ‘domicile policy’ before starting appointment process of teachers in the State.

“We are here to protest against the Act. We are carrying the traditional weapon symbolising the sentiments amongst tribal in rural areas of the State that if any attempt is made to snatch away their lands, then they would resort to violence,” said Mahabir Murmu, JMM East Singhbhum district president. Another party leader said that the State Government must define domicile policy in stipulated time to ensure that local people get grade-III and IV Government jobs.

He alleged that the BJP and other parties, did not want to address issues concerning domicile policy and want to keep their vote bank politics alive. The JMM activists later in the day submitted a memorandum addressed to President, Pranab Mukherjee through the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner.

“We have submitted the memorandum at district collectorate and requested the President to take this issue which is against the poor tribals. The current Government has violated norms of CNT Act and SPT Act and serving interest of capitalists,” said Murmu.  Meanwhile, traffic went haywire as the activists reached the Subernarekha link Road for nearly an hour. The road linking Sakchi, Northern Town and Circuit House Area with Mango witnesses nearly a lakh vehicles passing through it daily.
