Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, under the leadership of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren, will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday against the recent Ordinance brought by NDA Government in Jharkhand seeking amendments to the Santhal Pargana (SPT) and Chhotanagpur (CNT) Tenancy Acts.
“We will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on tomorrow and request him to intervene so that no tampering is done with the CNT and SPT Acts brought long beck to secure the interest of the tribal community in the state. Soren, along with all of its 19 MlAs will meet Mukherjee requesting him to overrule Jharkhand government’s ordinance keeping in mind the safety and rights of tribal families,” said JMM Central Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya.
JMM along with the other opposition parties earlier had brought the seven-day long monsoon session to a halt over its demand of rolling back of the ordinance. According to the party spokesperson, the bill will enable tribal landowners to divert their land for business purposes. The Ordinance was sent for President's approval on the first week of July.
“As the Ordinance will hit the interest of the tribals directly, we will request the President not to give his consent on it,” said Bhattacharya.
Meanwhile, Opposition parties including Congress, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, RJD, JDU along with the left Parties also held a meeting at Bihar Club here and a decision was taken to stage Satygraha against the illegal acquisition of 17,000 acre land in Badkagaon.
“It was a historic meeting where almost all the opposition parties including left Parties also took part and a consensus has been reached at holding a Satyagraha in Badkagaon on August 4. We are even prepared to give arresting if the government tries to stop us,” said former Ranchi MP and Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay. A massive campaign against the government will be launched, if we were stopped to hold Satyagrah peacefully, added Sahay.
Sahay said that other issues were also discussed during the meeting including ordinance over CNT/SPT Act and the new anarchy being created over the GM land in the state.
