In an attempt to get back its hold in neighbouring State Odisha, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Tuesday announced that the party will intensify its protest against Jindal Steel Plant, which is to be set up in Kalignagar in Odisha.
Addressing a press meet at the party headquarter in the State Capital, JMM Spokesperson cum General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the party has also raised its voice against displacement caused by the big industries. He said that Jindal’s steel plant is to be set up in Kalinganagar, Odisha and local and tribal people living in the area are opposing its construction because of a fear of displacement. “JMM State Chief Anjali Soren along with 30 supporters was going to meet the Jindal’s Management on Monday but on the way, Odisha police stopped her. Now JMM has made a plan to fight against displacement in Kalinganagar and other places in Odisha,” he added.
The Party Spokesperson further said that various senior leaders along with other party’s MLAs will be deployed by the party to intensify protest against displacement in the State and to raise tribal issues because a large number of tribals are living in the State. He said that soon Transport Minister in Jharkhand Government and JMM Vice president, Champai Soren along with many party MLAs, office bearers will camp on the issue so that the voice of locals could be raised vociferously.
“If there is need the party Supremo Sibu Soren and JMM Working president and Chief Minister, Hemant Soren will also visit the State to protest against the displacement. Simultaneously, the party’s struggle in Odisha will be given impetus again,” said Bhattacharya.
The party Spokesperson also said that there is a BJD Government in Odisha, which is also following the path of the Central Government of BJP. On the issue of displacement, exploitation of tribals, it is also like the BJP. Lakhs of tribal families were uprooted in Kalinganagar. “Now for the two steel plants of Jindal in Rajgangpur, there is preparation going on to displace many people living in the area. The arrest of party leader Anjali Soren will not weaken JMM’s campaign of struggle for tribals, minorities. It will be further accelerated,” he added.
