JMM seeks Governor's intervention in labour Bill

A delegation of JMM MlAs in the leadership of leader of principal opposition Hemant Soren called upon Governor Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday evening requesting her intervention in the Contractual labour Amendment Act, 2015 and Contract labour (Regulation & Abolition-1948) Jharkhand Amendment Act, which was passed by voice vote in the Assembly on Friday.

The JMM alleged that the Bill benefits businessmen and would lead to exploitation of labours.

“They (Government) have changed the bill which will help businessmen in exploiting labourers. We requested the Governor to intervene so that the Government revisits the bill,” said Bahrogora MlA, Kunal Sarangi.

The Bill created ruckus in the Assembly on Monday as JMM MlAs trooped into the well of the house demanding amendments in the Bill. The JMM MlA alleged that the bill exempts business entities with labour force less than 18 from any type of scrutiny and also compromises transparency by making inspector level officer as the final authority in labour matters.
