JMM poser in RS over inaction on EC fiat

Published on:

Raising the issue of State Government’s dillydallying attitude over Election Commission’s directive in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, JMM MP Sanjiv Singh asked the Union Home Ministry as to what was the status of action taken against the IPS officer named by the Commission in horse trading case and if no action was taken so far, what were the reasons behind it. The JMM claimed that as per the written answers given by the Ministry in the Upper House, it was admitted that neither any concrete action was taken so far, nor any FIR was lodged in this regard during the last one month.

“Since the officer has been working in Jharkhand, information in this regard from the State Government is awaited. Furthermore, the matter has not so far been referred to this ministry, hence this question does not arise,” stated the written answer given by the Union Minister of State Home Affairs.

The EC in its letter, sent to the Chief Secretary regarding Rajya Sabha Elections held last year, found ADG (Special Branch) Anurag Gupta and CM’s Political Advisor Ajay Kumar prima facie guilty for ‘misusing their official positions, interference in elections and breach of conduct/service rules’ and directed her to take action against them.

The directive was given after taking cognizance on the basis of a complaint filed by JVM president Babulal Marandi with CDs of purported phone calls of Gupta and Kumar alleging interference in the exercise of electoral rights of some of the electors during Rajya Sabha Elections.

Expressing concern over State Government’s lackluster attitude in taking action against the directions given by the Election Commission, JMM has also written a letter to Governor Draoupadi Murmu requesting her to immediately suspend the officials responsible for not taking action against the ADG and the Press Advisor as well by using her constitutional powers.

“Please suspend the top officials responsible for the inaction and take required steps to take over the responsibilities of those departments so that administration could be run in accordance with the constitutional provisions,” stated JMM Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya in his letter to Governor.

The Party Spokesperson, in his letter, further alleged that the law and order situation in the state had worsened during the last three months and regular incidents of chain snatching, theft, burglary, house break-in and murder etc were being reported. The letter further stated that there had also been a steep rise in the criminal incidents as the Home Ministry especially Police Headquarters have become negligent giving free hands to the criminals for committing crime.

Incidentally, both the officials pointed out by EC, come under departments headed by Chief Minister Raghubar Das himself. Gupta is a Police officer who comes under Home Department while Kumar was working under Cabinet Coordination Department, kept with Das. pns n ranchi
