The Vice president of the Mahanagar Committee of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and his spouse were murdered brutally late Saturday night at his residence located at Gourkhuti locality under Bhowra police outpost, police said on Sunday.
Police on Saturday morning recovered bodies of 50-year-old Shankar Rawani and his 45-year-old wife Baluka Rawani from a pool of blood in the courtyard of the house they were residing in. The couple first was shot at and later stabbed too by unknown assailants, according to Sindri deputy superintendent of Police ( DSP) AK Sinha, who reached the spot along with other police officers on Sunday morning.
Police have found three empty bullets of 9mm and a knife from the spot, said Sinha.
Only these two were in the house when the incident took place. Police recovered the body and sent it to PMCH for post-mortem. This happens to be the fourth murder in the family in last three years.
In Year 2017, Rawani’s elder brother Dhiren Rawani was shot dead under mysterious circumstances and on same day Kunal Rawani son of Shankar was lynched by a mob for his alleged involvement in murder of his uncle Dhiren. Dhiren happens to be the CEO of Rainbow group of companies that was holding business of hotel and micro finance.
Police are yet to get an appropriate reason of murder. The DSP said, “We are investigating the incident from all perspectives including property dispute among family members. The murderers will be arrested soon.” Meanwhile, JMM district president Ramesh Tuddu expressed deep concern over the incident. The party has lost an important leader. He demanded immediate police action for apprehending the accused.
Chandan Mahto former ward councillor of Ward 50 who was among first few persons to reach Shankar’s house on Saturday said, “Usually he (Shankar) used to come out from house to meet people but on Saturday when he failed to come out by 9am we reached to call him and found him dead and informed the police.”
