JMM flays BJP for staying away from all-party delegation to meet HM

An all-party delegation from Jharkhand headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren is expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand caste based census and a separate Sarana code. The JMM has criticized the BJP for staying away from this delegation.

JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya, who addressed a press conference on Tuesday said that the announcement made by the BJP has raised questions over the intention of the BJP.

During the Budget session of the Assembly, the House had passed a resolution to send a nine-member delegation to meet the Prime Minister to present the demand for caste based census and the inclusion of Sarana code in the religion column for tribals. The House authorized the Chief Minister to head the delegation.

“Accordingly, an appointment was sought from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since he is busy, the office of the prime minister on September 9 informed that the delegation should meet the Union Home Minister. The delegation is likely to visit the Union Minister this week or the next week. But, the BJP has officially stated it will not be part of the delegation. This raises questions over the intention of the BJP,” said Bhattacharya.

He said that the BJP had officially stated support for separate Sarana code in the religion column.

“But the state BJP president Deepak Prakash who is also the member of the Rajya Sabha has clearly said that the BJP will not join the delegation to meet the union home minister. This shows the communal politics of the BJP because the party actually doesn’t want a separate Sarana code,” he said.
