The Opposition comprising the JMM and Congress on Wednesday approached the Election Commission requesting it to file an FIR against Chief Minister Raghubar Das for violating the model code of conduct in littipara constituency.
A delegation led by JMM Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Kumar and national spokesperson of the Congress Ajoy Kumar met Secretary of the Commission and handed over a memorandum calling to initiate action.
“The Chief Minister on March 17 in a BJP workers’ meet at Dumka made several lucrative announcements offering houses and jobs to the people. One of the blocks of littipara falls in the district. This was a clear violation of the model code of conduct already imposed there. We demanded from the Election Commission to immediately file an FIR against the CM for the violations made,” said Sanjeev Kumar who earlier also raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha seconded by some Congress members during the Zero Hour.
The memorandum also has mentioned about transfers of the BDOs from Hiranpur and Amarapara blocks and termed it as “political posting” and against the model code of conduct while demanding cancelling the decisions and asking for explanation. This apart, the leaders also objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sahibganj visit scheduled for April 6.
“The PM is coming two days ahead of the poll which would surely affect it. His programme to distribute mobile phones and appointment letters to Paharia people is like tempting the voters. The littipara constituency has over 27,000 Paharia voters. We have requested the Commission to block the visit and the programmes to take place over there at Sabihganj,” said the MP.
The JMM, in the meantime, is looking confident of sailing through, particularly after roping in one of its founding member Simon Marandi, back into the party. “After 70 years of the Independence and reservation why only 4 per cent jobs are with the tribalsIJ Who is responsible for thatIJ It is a well thought out plan of the parties like the BJP to deprive tribals of their due, compel them picking up guns and then go on label them as the Naxalites,” said JMM executive president Hemant Soren.
The tussle for the seat, which fell vacant after sudden demise of JMM’s Anil Murmu, has also become interesting with both widows of the late MlA, after failing in contesting the poll themselves, have taken different sides. First wife Uniquey Udera Hansda is electioneering for the BJP’s Hemlal Murmu, while second lady Nisha Sabnam Hansda joined the JMM to canvass for Simon.
