The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for Bharat Bandh on September 27 protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws. To make the Bandh call successful, the UPA alliance partners and Left parties today called on a meeting discussing the strategy for Bandh. Congress, JMM, Left parties had a discussion at Congress Bhawan which was chaired by Congress president Rajesh Thakur. The parties prepared strategies for the Bandh.
As per the discussion in this meeting, a torch procession will be taken out on 26 September. Apart from this, demonstrations will also be held in all the district headquarters on September 29. Congress working president Shahzada Anwar, Vinod Pandey of JMM, former MP Bhuvneshwar Mehta from Left parties and leaders of other parties were also present in the meeting.
Vinod Pandey said that Parliament witnessed an unprecedented scene with Opposition MPs, including women MPs, being thrashed by marshals. Pandey said that this is for the first time that the opposition was denied their right to raise important issues related to the country and the general public.
The Indian economy is getting destroyed due to the gross mismanagement of the central government. Millions of youth are becoming victims of unemployment. For 9 months, farmers are against agricultural laws on the Delhi border, but the Center is not listening to them. In such a situation, along with farmers’ unions, other parties including UPA will take to the streets in support of Bharat Bandh.
Bhuvneshwar Mehta said that the government is not discussing burning issues in the Parliament. The government also does not see any solution to secure life and livelihood.
The ruling alliance partners supporting the bandh call assume importance as JMM has already stated that they will not implement farm laws in the State saying that it is against the interest of farmers and agriculture.
Earlier, JMM executive president and Chief Minister Hemant Soren had cautioned the Centre about the possibility of an “ulgulan” (rebellion). The word “ulgulan” was coined during tribal icon Birsa Munda’s rebellion against the British empire between 1899 and 1900.
Meanwhile, as per bandh call Central and state government offices, markets, shops, factories, schools, colleges and other educational institutions will not be allowed to function during the Bharat Bandh by farmers, which will start at 6am and remain in force till 4pm.
Public and private transport will not be allowed to ply on roads. No public functions will be allowed and only emergency services, including ambulances and fire services, can function during the bandh.
