J'khand voters stumped by deletion of names

Published on:

The electoral roll revision in seven Assembly constituencies of Ranchi has stumped those electorate who have either failed to provide their photograph to the Booth level Officers (BlOs) or could not be verified during door to door verification drive.

Significantly, names of as many as 1,76,524 number of electorate in seven assembly constituencies in Ranchi district will be deleted on account of being dead, change in location, missing or having more than one identification.

Interestingly, the Speaker of Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha has smelled a rat in the roll revision process and termed it a conspiracy.

The District administration has provided the list of names proposed for deletion from the voter’s list.

Incidentally, following a letter from the Election Commission of India (ECI) dated April 11, the District administration had began the exercise of collecting photos of electorates from April 1.

Although the exercise culminated on April 30 the District administration extended the date for complains to May 27 before taking a final call on the names to be deleted.

The Electoral Officer’s, based on the directive of ECI, will publish booth-wise list of names that will be deleted from the photo voters list.
