A team of Jharkhand police will leave for Delhi in a day or two in view of the arrest of suspected al-Qaeda militant Abdul Sami who used to stay in Jamshedpur before his arrest by the Delhi Police from Haryana on Monday.
Jharkhand ADG (operations) SN Pradhan said a team of Jharkhand Police will leave for Delhi in a day or two. The Jharkhand Police team will interrogate Sami in Delhi.
Meanwhile, following the arrest, residents of Dhatkidih, under Bisutpur police station where Sami stayed are in a state of shock.
His family members stay at the second floor of AK Residency, an apartment, for the last two years. Apparently shocked, residents were found discussing about the alleged anti-national act of Sami.
“It is too early to jump to a conclusion. I think this is preliminary investigation in which Sami has been arrested for having links with the terrorist outfit. But, if proved that he is guilty of what the police have claimed, then we will ask the family to vacate the flat and even our locality,” said Md Nizam who stays nearby.
“One of the flat owners who do not stay in the steel city has rented this flat to Mohammed Abdul Sattar, Sami’s father. We will not allow him to reside in the locality,” he said.
Another resident said Sami’s misdeeds have tarnished the image of Dhatkidih locality. “It is an anti- national act,” he added.
Meanwhile, officer-in-charge of Bistupur thana, Jitendra Kumar met Sami’s father at the latter’s house this afternoon. The senior cop later said he had been to Sattar’s house to know about Sami’s family background.
Sami is Sattar’s third son among four. The rest of Sattar’s three sons - Rashid, Syeed and Rahman - are in Gulf countries where they are employed in different companies.
A former Tata Steel employee, Sattar used to stay at the company’s quarter in Sakchi till his retirement in 2011. Then, they shifted to Rajak Colony in Dhatkidih where they stayed at a rented house before shifting to AK Residency.
Speaking to the media, Sattar (65) said, “Sami is a religious person. I am confident that he has wrongly been implicated in the case.” Sami is a bachelor while the rest of his sons are married.
