J'khand Govt in process of evaluating outcomes of 'Ease of Doing Business'

Industries Department Director K Ravi Kumar on Sunday invited criticism over Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in State, and those present around wasted no time to fulfil his desires.

The workshop organised on Ease of Doing Business in Jharkhand by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and sponsored by Department of Industries, Mines and Geology saw potential investors in State and other stakeholders shooting their queries, most of them related to Single Window system and the Director replying to most of them patiently.

“Two years after we launched entire process of ease of doing business in State, it’s time for us to look back and see what have been the outcomes, where we have remained distinct from other States and what are the key areas where we have to make positive changes in process,” said Kumar, where E&Y Advisor Akhilesh Saurikhia, CA Mahender Kumar Jain and others also put their perspective across.

He added that paving way for local businesses to flourish was one of the key challenges the Government wanted to take, as local traders were among most authentic brand ambassadors of overall business scenario in State. He said the brand image of Jharkhand had drastically changed after Momentum Jharkhand and also through road shows and participations in various events prior to that.

“Please feel free to criticize us, as it will only help us evaluate our works and achievements. Single window is active and 36-member team is always ready to help you come out of any blue while making efforts to do business in State,” said Kumar in workshop which was supposed to be addressed by Industries Department Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal, who couldn’t make it due to reasons better known to him only.

Notably, Jharkhand has been pursuing the EoDB agenda since its beginning in 2015 and secured 3rd position in 2015 ranking among States pursuing similar agenda. It succeeded in achieving 96.57 per cent compliances to Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) points of EoDB in 2016.

The workshop had been planned with CAs to understand their perspective, challenges being faced, and to get their expectations registered with the Department from Single Window system and the Government. Outcomes of workshop would be used in deliberation being done to plan modifications required in working of EoDB.

Saurikhia said the efforts being made by the Government in simplifying processes and making land for industries available were one of the best in country. “In any new thing, it is beyond possible to start with perfection. But good thing is that the government’s attitude and gesture towards positive changes is extremely appreciable,” added Saurakhia.
