In a strange turn of events on Monday night, one Amit Srivastav first slashed the neck of one Anamika Bhatt (Name Changed) over unrequited love, took her to hospital for medical attention when her condition deteriorated, even informed her family members, and then took his own life by jumping from third floor of the hospital.
Police officials from Pithoria police station visited the girl in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to get her statement about the incident. “Now that Pithoria Officer In-charge has the girl’s statement, a First Information Report will soon be filed according to the information received,” stated Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Mukesh Kumar.
Coming from Pundag locality in Ranchi, Amit knew Anamika for the past two years and had been proposing her for marriage, which she had been declining constantly. On Monday, he asked her to come to Patratu valley with him, threatening to kill himself if she refused. On reaching there, he first slashed his own wrists and then Anamika’s neck with a blade.
Amit then took Anamika to Nagarmal Modi Seva Sadan for treatment, when her health worsened from the wound. He called up her mother asking her to come to the hospital. Reaching there, she found that her daughter had been referred to RIMS.
At RIMS, Anamika informed her mother about Amit cutting her neck. Coming to know of this, her mother confronted Amit, who then, scared of the gathering crowd, committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the hospital.
Although, prima facie, it seems to be a case of one-sided love affair, investigations are also being made considering this to be a failed rape attempt, where Anamika was assaulted for refusing to give in. “Although I have not received the statement myself, but further investigation will be based on this that whether this was a case of attempted rape or not,” stated Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajkumar lakra.
