Jharkhand IAS Officers Wives Association (JIASOWA) is organising a unique fund raiser for its various charitable projects by presenting for the first time in State capital, a water ballet of one-and-a-half-hour duration. The ballet will be based on the story name Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne written by Upendra Kishore Ray, grandfather of renowned Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The performers will be from the Indian life Saving Society Kolkata.
Vice President of JIASOWA Mini Sarkar said, “The basic idea behind this programme is to generate fund for our benevolent work. We all are aware of the fact that Ranchities have always shown keen interest in extra curriculum activities, so water ballet will definitely prove to be a hit show.”
Water Ballet also known as synchronised swimming is a hybrid form of swimming, dance and gymnastics. Swimmers (solo, duet, combos or teams) perform synchronized elaborate moves in the water accompanied by music. Synchronized swimming demands advanced water skills, and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down underwater.
Water ballet first began with Annette Kellerman, a woman from Sydney, Australia. She was born on 6 July 1886 and from an early age suffered from rickets, a disease that weakens and softens the bones. In order to fight the debilitating disease, Kellerman spent most of her childhood swimming. Her daily swims caused her to gain strength in her legs and catapulted her to a career that brought her fame.
Water Ballet is famous all across the globe and in India only metropolitans admire this unique dance form. To make this exclusive idea famous in other parts of the country too, members of JIASOWA has taken a small initiative in this direction.
Secretary of JIASOWA Mini Singh said, “I had seen water ballet in Delhi for the first time. It was a great experience, so we thought to provide the same mesmerizing experience to locale people here.”
Chief Minister Hemant Soren along with his family is likely to attend this programme which is starting from September 27 at Budhu Bhagat Aquatic stadium, Hotwar.
