Dr Bibhuti P Kashyap has crossed a milestone by securing a top position in the senior residency entrance test conducted by All India Institute of Medial Sciences (AIIMS).

After successfully completing the programme, Dr Bibhuti, son of noted ophthalmologists Dr BP Kashyap and Dr Bharti Kashyap, will become the youngest and first retina specialist from Jharkhand to have undergone a specialized senior residency programme at AIIMS.

With the aim to serve the underprivileged and provide best medical services to people in Ranchi, Dr Bibhuti, while interacting with media, said, “My aim is to serve people and give them the best treatment for which they wait in long queues outside AIIMS since 3 am.”

Notably, there are only three seats in general category at AIIMS for the senior residency in Ophthalmology field. The exam is considered to be the toughest and ophthalmologists from all over India appear to crack the test and secure their seat for the prestigious senior residency programme at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The training programme will also include the varied specialisations like Uvea, Retinopathy of Prematurity (Retinopathy in pre matured new born) and pediatric ophthalmology.

Bibhuti has completed his MBBS with eight honours streams. He was the only candidate in general category from Bihar and Jharkhand to crack the prestigious AIIMS PG entrance examination in 2012.  He has completed his MD in ophthalmology in R P Centre AIIMS.

“To continue the rich legacy and to take over the baton from my parents, getting trained in ophthalmology from any institute other than AIIMS would have meant a compromise in patients’ care from my end,” added Dr Bibhuti.
