The legal title holders (LTH)of land those residing in Jharia coalfields and face threat of eviction owing underground mine fire have demanded compensation in accordance to provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act(RFCTLARR)2013.
The Jharia Bachao Samiti that is fighting since long for the rights of the LTH in a letter to Jharkhand chief secretary Sukhdev Singh has demanded this keeping in view that the given period of implementation of Jharia Action Plan expired in August 2021 and a proposal of extension of the rehabilitation plan that is being implemented through Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA)is pending with the government of India. Not a single LTH has yet been given compensation since the plan came into existence in 2004 and till its time span ended in August last year.
Members of samiti recently had met chief secretary and had apprised his of the demand of the LTH who have been residing in the coalfield area since generations.
Patron of samiti Sanjeev Sharma said, the chief secretary has assured us that we would hold talks with them after Chhath festival in this regard.
Sharma said, our demand is just because the government had awarded compensation under the aforementioned act in the Kashi Vishwanath corridor case.
