Jharcraft brings ray of sunshine to rural women

Jharcraft, in an attempt to make rural women of Jharkhand self dependent, will train them to assemble solar equipments to be used further in the remote villages which have not been electrified till date. The first batch for the ‘trained professionals’ is expected to be started on June 05.

“We have been planning to start training of solar equipments for the last one and a half year which will be cheaper as per the need of the rural population of the state. Firstly, we are starting it on a smaller scale engaging only four skilled persons and a supervisor,” said Jharcraft Managing Director Dheerendra Kumar.

According to the MD first batch will be started on June 5 who will be given training for the next 10 months in assembling and maintenance of solar lanterns, solar lamps and even solar generators.

Several self help groups have been contacted for this purpose and they are looking for more interested women for this trade. “As soon as we get more women for the training the plan will be scaled up,” said Kumar.

“We prefer those women who some prior knowledge in this field or have been trained in some similar trade to make it easier for them to understand the details,” added the MD.

Jharcraft will take care of both funding and marketing in this project and government’s help will be sought later as the plan gets scaled up in future.

Jharcraft has trained more than 3000 people in various trades till date and now looking forward to train at least 20,000 more in the skills like weaving, sewing, apiculture and sericulture etc.

Recently, Jharcraft had launched a range of bamboo and lac jewelries exclusively made by the women of some of the remotest areas of the state with the training provided by the agency.
