Jharcraft to promote skill tourism in State

Published on:
Jharcraft has decided to promote skill tourism of the State. The plan will commence with the development of Hazaribag Urban Hut and lapung Rural Hut, which would be transformed as tourist spots. Foreign and elite class tourists will be given the scope of watching the live demonstration of silk production by the artists of these two places.
Similarly, live demonstrations will be presented at the two-day programme to be inaugurated at a city hotel on Saturday and in the Chhau Festival scheduled at Saraikela in April. Weavers of the State will also get the chance of learning the computer design of their hand-made products.
Jharcraft Managing Director (MD) AT Mishra related the fact with the recent announcement of CM Raghubar Das to begin C-DAC (Computer Data Analysis Centre). He said branches of C-DAC will be opened at Ranchi, Hazaribag, latehar, Kharsawan and Deoghar.
“Master trainers will be deployed in each branch. This will also help in promoting skill tourism,” Mishra said during a media interaction on Friday.
“The Ministry of Textiles has instructed us to focus on the local handloom, handicraft and sericulture since the State has a lot of scope in tourism. People outside the state are curious to learn our local culture. We will soon send a proposal to the Tourism department for developing the two mentioned places,”
Mishra said.
“Our main aim is to uplift the skill of the weavers. Earlier they had to rely on middlemen for sale and purchasing their handmade products. But, the plan of skill tourism will allow them to sell their products directly to the consumers as the elite and foreign tourists would afford to purchase the costly materials,” added the Jharcraft MD. In the next few months, Jharcraft will focus on improving the quality of its products so that artisans working in its Common Facility Centres functioning across the State can get adequate labour charges.
