Jawans reel under water crisis in Maoist-hit areas

Published on:

Cops in latehar District are facing drinking water crisis. There are 12 security posts in the core and buffer areas of the Palamu tiger reserve to check the activity of CPI Maoists. The Pioneer held a conversation with the 2008 batch IPS officer Ajay linda, the SP latehar to know as to how cops in the district cope with drinking water crisis. Here is the excerpt:

You have a security post at 400 meter above the sea level at labher the highest ever security camp in this range. How do you meet the water crisis there at lateharIJ

The latehar security camp is definitely the highest one. There is no proper drinking water supply here. It is a big problem.  The jawans have built a staircase. Water is available here through tankers.

But tankers cannot scale this height as this security camp is too atop a hill. The tankers bring water. Then this water is collected in all size utensils in the ground which are taken up by the jawans up the hill.

Is this the only security camp atop a hill that is so afflicted with water crisisIJ

No. Away from Betla there is one company of our boys at Kaer. This camp is on the ground. But here too the drinking water is acute. The security forces have engaged the forest rest house at Kaer. Palamu police range has a history when jawans were made to lose life and weapon by the Maoists when they had ventured out to take bath at village wells far away from their camp/base.

I have given strong instruction to all jawans and officers not to make themselves any vulnerable by going out to village wells for bath or washing linen etc. No such going out by jawans will be taken any easy by me.

Do cops interact with youIJ

I have asked them to tell me their problems first but not to risk life and weapon by any act of loose movement of them.
