Jawan shoots self over 'family dispute'

Ramesh Kumar, a jawan of Jharkhand Armed Police-4th battalion, shot himself on Tuesday late evening here at Hazaribagh. He was posted at Bokaro and was in Hazaribagh on special duty for Dussehra and Bakrid.

On October 15, at about 9:30pm the jawans of JAP-4, staying at Annada College premises, heard a sound of firing. They found that their fellow is lying on the floor. There was blood everywhere; the fellow jawans immediately carried him to Sadar Hospital where medical officers declared him brought dead. Initially, it was said that he was hit by two bullets shot by the Insas rifle of some unknown jawan but on Wednesday, it was confirmed that he had shot himself by his own rifle.

SP Manoj Kaushik and other senior officials of the district rushed to the spot and started investigating the matter. On Wednesday SP confirmed that it was a suicide and family dispute is perhaps the cause. Ramesh Kumar, a permanent resident of Kanke, Ranchi, was not in a good mental condition for last few days. His fellows said that before this incident he was talking to someone on his mobile phone and just after ending the call he had perhaps shot himself. The body of jawan Ramesh Kumar was sent to his native place. On Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the officers of district police and JAP kept inquiring into the matter but no one said anything to media.
