A 38-year-old Jharkhand police jawan from Bihar's Buxar district, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon in Giridih Police sources said that Mayer's bodyguard, identified as Rahul Rai, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death with his service revolver in front of his mother and wife at Darzi Muhalla under town police station here on Wednesday just after returning from his duty, police said.
Sources said that the deceased hailed from Bihar's Buxar district, an officer-in Charge of town police station Aditya Kant Mahto said.
"The jawan shot himself with his service revolver soon after returning to his house at Darzi muhalka in Giridih here at around 03:15pm today. Hearing the gunshot, one Sakti Chaudhary rushed to the spot only to find him dead," the officer said.
Police are trying to find out the reason behind his extreme step, Dy SP Santosh Mishra said.
His family members have been informed about the incident, the officer said.
Sources informed that Rahul Rai body guard of District Moyer Sunil Paswan was married to Sandhya Devi. His mother, Urmila Dev, wife Sandhya and two children were living at Darzi muhalka in Giridih.
ASP Deepak Kumar said that the Jawan Rahul Rai shot himself dead on the spot inside his house at Darzi muhalla. The reason for taking the extreme step was not known immediately and inquest proceedings under relevant section of CrPC have been initiated by the town police of Giridih. The dead body of Rai was shifted to Sadar hospital for the postmortem.
