Akash Kumar Dutta, a student of Jamshedpur Public School scored the highest cut -off mark in JEE Mains, whose results were declared on Monday. Dutta scored 300 marks out of 360. like many other students he will appear for JEE Advanced test on May 24. “I am satisfied with my performance. But still I had expected somewehere around 320-340. I scored less in physics which cost me the most,” said Dutta.

According to the rules, the cut-off marks for general to appear for the JEE Advanced is 107 out of 360 marks for general and 70 for OBC candidates. The SC/ST candidates required 51 and 44 respectively.

About 10,000 candidates had appeared for JEE Mains offline examination which took place on April 3 across 10 centres in the city. The online examination were held on April 10 and 11 in two centres of the city.

“We are happy with the performance of the students and we are still downloading the results and are yet to analyse the same. I think the low cut off this year has helped many students,” said Pramod Dubey, director of Prerna Classes, a leading coaching centre for JEE in the city.

According to the rules, the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced should have been a combined rank with 60 per cent weightage to JEE Mains and 40 per cent weightage to board results. Since none of the boards have declared their results, cut offs will help understand the eligibility for JEE Advanced.

“As of now, the eligibility for Advanced will only be the cut offs. As students checked their roll numbers today, they received their marks and got to know whether they are eligible for the next examination. We guess JEE Mains will take out another list after all the board results are out for admission in NITs and other institutes,” said another official of a coaching centre.
