Amidst the ongoing challenges in the global economy, Tata Steel is committed to value creation, for the sustainable growth of the society. This was evident at the series of events organised by the steel major to pay tributes to its founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 175th birth anniversary.
Addressing citizens near JN Tata’s bust at Bistupur Postal Park, Cyrus P Mistry, chairman, Tata Sons, said that the very purpose of the company’s existence is nurturing the principles of giving back to the society. “We are dedicated to fulfill the founder’s dream. Good infrastructure and good healthcare facilities will remain our priorities. I had inaugurated burn care unit at TMH yesterday and would like to express our commitment to have world class health infrastructure in the city,” Mistry added.
He also flagged off Founder’s Day pageantry near Bistupur post office, which saw 30 tableaux of social, educational and trade bodies, Rapid Action Force, army unit of Punjab Regiment on bikes, and 891 Field Regiment of Sonary-based Army camp displaying exhibit on Zimmedar Nagrik, Zimmedar Shahar inculcating responsibilities amongst residents of city.
Cyrus Mistry also launched the initiative ‘Tata Engage’ during the founder’s day celebration inside Tata Steel works. (TSG). It aims to encourage Tata employees around the world to get involved in the community by contributing their time and skills. The Tata Engage programme has been designed to create a win-win situation for all stakeholders — Tata volunteers will get to meet new people and gain new perspectives on community development; Tata companies will be able to make a more positive impact on the communities around their plants and offices; and NGOs can reach out to a larger community of Tata volunteers.
Excitement ruled the function as the chairman and his wife Rohiqa Mistry along with Tata Steel MD T. V Narendran arrived at the Tata Steel works main gate around 8.45 am. Around 5,000 employees, 30 departments and 25 floats displayed this year’s theme — “Realising dreams responsibly” — before dignitaries which included Tata Steel vice-chairman B. Muthuraman, member board of directors Tata Steel Ishaat Hussain, Tata Steel CEO (Europe) Karl Ulrich Kohler, former Tata Steel managing director J. J Irani and former deputy MD Tata Steel T Mukherjee.
According to the information 38 divisions of Tata Steel participated in the parade. About 4500 employees took part in the parade. Moreover 20 floats depicting the development and activities of various companies and divisions were taken out. A series of sporting events were also organised across all departments to celebrate the Founder’s Day with the citizens, children and communities settled in Jamshedpur and the neighbouring areas.
