Dancing to popular Bollywood songs of the 1990s picturised on Govinda and Akshay Kumar, Jamshedpur based Dipanjan Basak (31) realised that he was born to be an entertainer. Cut to 2019, Basak has just made his Bollywood debut in ‘Chase No Mercy to Crime’, which has hit the theatres on August 2.

“The movie is based on a true story where I play the role of a police inspector Sheikh Imran. The role is that of an honest policeman of the Bengal police force whose integrity is being questioned because of his religion. Imran is seen suffering from an inner conflict, making compromises on his family life in his eagerness to serve the nation,” said the actor.

The movie is also the Hindi directorial debut of SRG who has directed Bengali films like ‘Bhoy’ and ‘Chetana’ and also features versatile actors like Mushtaq Khan and Gargi Patel. Amythi Sethi is also making his debut in movie and will be playing the role of the antagonist-Sattu. It also marks the comeback of legendary singer Kumar Sanu while the lyrics have been penned by Sudhakar Sharma.

“I have grown up listening to Kumar Sanu songs who ruled the 1990s music industry with his melodious voice. It was a great privilege and a dream come true to be featured in his comeback song,” added Basak.

Basak has been part of Bengali films ‘Chorabaali’ and ‘Power’ and a Hindi movie called ‘Badmashiyaan’. His next Bengali film ‘Ramgarh 154 Kms’  which has been shot around Ranchi is also slated to release later this year.

“I always wanted to be a part of the film industry. Movies make a person immortal and that is how I want to be. I want to be remembered through my good work in cinema,” said Basak.

The actor started his career as a model and won the title Mr. Jamshedpur in 2004. Along with pursuing modeling, he also worked in a BPO, a software company and later an entertainment company in a span of 10 years.

“After seven-years of desk job and modeling for various brands I finally got a break in cinema. At times I did feel like an outsider but I knew consistency is the key and held on to it. Five years down the line, I want to be known for my work as an actor and also as a philanthropist,” remarked Basak.

Apart from being a cinephile, Basak is also a fitness freak and a travel enthusiast. “As a child my favourite song was ‘Zara parde pe aane de, muhje hero ban jaane de, phir dekh tamasha’. It’s almost surreal how this has come true,” chuckles the performer.

Born in the Steel City, Basak did his schooling from Ramakrishna Mission School, Jamshedpur and is an English honours graduate from Ranchi University. He feels his family has been his biggest support system. “My mother and brother have been my strongest pillars. My father would always say that I am a jack of all traits, but now I feel seeing me focus on my work, he would have been very proud of me and I sense him smiling from up above,” believes the entertainer.
