Jamshedpur girl tops ICSE in the country, shines without tuitions

Shambhavee Jayaswaal, a student of Loyola School, Jamshedpur, has emerged as the national topper of the ICSE (Class 10) examinations, securing a flawless average of 100% — and she did it without taking a single tuition class.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced the Class 10 (ICSE) and Class 12 (ISC) results today, with Shambhavee’s name shining brightest among thousands of students across India.

Speaking to media at her home in Jamshedpur, an elated but humble Shambhavee said, “I was hopeful of doing well and maybe topping in Jharkhand, but I never imagined I would top the entire country. It’s surreal.”

While many students rely heavily on coaching centres and private tuitions to prepare for board exams, Shambhavee took a different route — one that leaned entirely on school learning, disciplined self-study, and strong conceptual clarity. Her exceptional performance — scoring 100 marks each in English, Hindi, Mathematics, Computers, and Social Science, and 98 in Science — proves that personalized dedication can often outshine institutional coaching.

A student with deep academic interests and clarity of ambition, Shambhavee aspires to pursue Computer Science from IIT Bombay, setting her sights on a future in engineering. “Though my parents are doctors, and many family members are in the medical field, I’ve always felt drawn to something different. Mathematics is my favourite subject, and I want to build a career in technology and innovation,” she said.

Shambhavee’s achievement is not only a personal triumph but also a proud moment for Loyola School, a premier educational institution in Jamshedpur known for its academic rigor and value-based teaching. The school has consistently produced stellar results, but this year’s national feat has lifted its legacy to new heights.

Behind Shambhavee’s brilliance lies a foundation of academic discipline and family support. Her father, Dr. Abhishek Jayaswaal, is the Head of the Radiology Department at Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital, and her mother, Dr. Ojaswi Shankar, serves as an Associate Professor at Manipal Tata Medical College. Both parents are accomplished in their fields and attribute their daughter’s success to her focus and self-drive.

“It is a matter of great pride and joy for our family,” said Dr. Jayaswaal. “We ensured that she had a healthy routine and the right academic environment. She managed her studies on her own, and we only guided her when necessary. She has made us proud with her commitment and clarity of thought.”

“ Shambhavee’s success story has become a beacon for students across India, especially those from smaller towns who often face pressure to enroll in expensive tuitions. Her message is clear: self-study, if pursued with sincerity and strategy, can be more effective than any coaching centre,” said Father Vinod Fernandes, principal, Loyola School.

As congratulatory messages pour in from educators, city officials, and peers, Shambhavee remains grounded. “I just did what I loved — studied with focus, stayed curious, and didn’t let pressure get to me,” she says with a smile.
