The three-day championship dog show, to be organised by Jamshedpur Kennel Club ( JKC) at Loyola School ground, from Friday has received around 430 entries, the highest so far. The participation this year is also the maximum in the eastern region.

Ruchi Narendran, president, Jamshedpur Kennel Club, said after a gap of two years due to the pandemic, we are organizing the 71, 72nd and 73 Championship Dog Show. This is the biggest show in the history of JKC. She went on to inform that two new events have been added for the first time, the Beagle specialty show and the Labrador Retriever specialty show. The Beagle Specialty Show will witness 57 participants while the Labrador Retriever show will have 54 participants.

The president said that the show has been designed in a way that it will be both entertaining and informative for the people of Jamshedpur, particularly canine lovers, children and parents.

The Jamshedpur Kennel Club organises this show with an aim to generate interest amongst citizens in keeping pet’s, to bring about awareness about breeds and their care, and organise weekly and daily clinics for their treatment at the Kennel Club.

Jamshedpur Kennel Club general secretary Sudipto Sarkar said that dogs from Jamshedpur have been competing and have won these national level awards for the last couple of years.

“This year we will be recognising two of the dogs and their trainers for the exemplary services rendered and will be retiring from active competition this year. They have achieved excellence in the Obedience test. Their contribution has made Jamshedpur an undisputed obedience training in India,” said Sarkar.

Dog-man's best friend - had not received the attention and care it deserved in the Eastern part of India, particularly in Bihar prior to April 1977. This was due to the absence of any association or club of Dog lovers. To overcome this, it was thought way back in 1977 to form a Kennel club at Jamshedpur, affiliated to the Kennel Club India Chennai. The idea was to strive to promote the state of the canine world by arranging scientific breeding, training, dog show and trial, registration of dogs, expert veterinary advice etc. This was discussed with several dog lovers in Jamshedpur and finally Bihar Kennel club was born on 7th April 1977.
