Majority of Muslims are ignorant about the finer points of Talaq, said a campaigner, Matin Tariq, of the Daltonganj unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Matin said, “Our own community does not know about the Muslim Personal law and the result of which is that others go noisy over it and issue tons of statements without understanding that dissemination of wrong ideas and concepts are harmful to the entire society.”
On the issue of Talaq, Matin Tariq said there is a strong need for setting up of counselling centres all over the country where people should be counselled over this. He further said that no one has any right to interpret or misinterpret the tenets of Ttalaq as per his own considerations and limits of knowledge.
Ali Imam, local president of Daltonganj unit of Jammat - e- Islami Hind said the 15-day campaign launched by this unit is for massive awareness about Muslim Personal law. However, Imam said as the issue of Talaq is the raging issue now the awareness was too focused on it as well.
Maulana Imran Sulfi, Maulana Nizam Qadri Shahnawaz Ahmad, Md Islam and Abul Hasnain too gave their opinion on the Muslim Personal law.
Ali Imam said the awareness drive was held in 140 panchayats of Palamu. Noted woman activists Shamshad Begum and Soofeeya Shaheen and others conducted this awareness drive in urban areas.
It was Matin Tariq who stole the show when he told media persons that giving Talaq has become an issue of ego where the best thing should be patience and tolerance and things turn bad to worse when it gets misused and abused.
Tariq added Talaq is a surgery which a doctor prescribes when medication fails and likewise Talaq is the last resort to be exercised with extreme care caution and guard without violating the basic rights of man and woman.
