Jalkumbhi hills on road in Hazaribagh

A wellknown town based businessman took the responsibility to clean popular Hazaribag Lake. some twelve days ago, work started and Jalkumbhi were removed in huge quantities and dumped on the Lake Road. Due to this, traffic movement came to a standstill with people demanding immediate removal of the jalkumbhi hill from the Lake Road.

Vinod Sahani, who is taking care of the cleanliness drive said, he took the responsibility at a time when no one was turning up to do this tough work. Around 25 labourers were engaged to clean this lake which is known for having a big statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The jalkumbhis were covering entire lake and naturally the district administration faced criticism for not being able to get the lake cleaned even on Gandhi Jayanti.

Sahani said they were left with no other option but to keep jalkumbhis on the road. There is no other place to keep jalkumbhis and now if municipal corporation will not remove it from the road, they will have to close this cleanliness work in a day or two. Afterall where we will dump the jalkumbhis? he asked. He said it was the duty of corporation to remove the jalkumbhis from there. He said they are planning to engage more labourers to clean all the four lakes before chhath.

When The Pioneer asked this from deputy mayor Rajkumar Lal, he said he was not having information about this ongoing work. I have seen the jalkumbhi hill blocking the road, he added promising to take the necessary steps in this matter tomorrow.

The road blocked by jalkumbhis is used by local people to go to university or to NH-33 avoiding busy town roads.
