Jaleshwar Mahto replaces Raja Peter as State JD (U) chief

Gopal Krishna Patar on Tuesday resigned from party president post of Jharkhand. Popularly known as Raja Peter, the Tamar legislator of the party submitted his papers to national party president Sharad Yadav in Delhi which has been accepted as well.

Taking a quick decision, the party has named Jaleshwar Mahto as new JD-U chief for Jharkhand. Talking from Delhi over phone, Raja Peter said that the decision was taken in the welfare of the party. "I have decided to resign in the benefit of my constituency and the party. Some statements were coming here and there from the part of some leaders who had been on the post previously. Some double-triple party programmes were taking place which was not beneficial for JD-U. That is why I decided to resign," he told.

Rift between Jaleshwar Mahto and Raja Peter camps was on rife in the State since the later was made the party head. The step can also be seen in the light of recent surge in Kurmi politics Jharkhand has seen. The caste forms a substantial vote bank in the State.
