State Director General of Police DK Pandey’s directive to police officers to curb crimes both in rural and urban areas in a recently held meeting at the State Capital with cops from the districts saw three raids conducted in three jails in this police range of Palamu on Wednesday.

Sources said this was very rare when raids were conducted in all the three jails on the same day when teams of civil and police officials entered jail premises in their respective areas. It was early morning of Wednesday when the teams knocked at the gate of the jails. Sources said all care was taken to ensure that the raid plan didn’t leak to anyone and for that purpose morning time was chosen.

Meanwhile, DIG Palamu Saket Kumar Singh has also confirmed about the raids in three jails - one each in Garhwa latehar and Palamu districts. In the central jail Daltonganj the raiding team found 3,500 in cash besides ganja and earphones.

Garhwa jail raid led to seizure of three cellphones, two sim cards, four chargers and two batteries. Raiding team found four knives and many items in latehar jail.

Crimes in urban area and semi-urban area have been upswing for last few weeks. last week in Daltongang gangsters opened fire leading to the death of one gangster. Police sources said two gangs one of Dabloo Singh and the other of Sujit Sinha were operative and are at daggers drawn at each other, DIG Saket said police had drawn strategy and planning to clip these two gangs.

Asked if the raids in 3 jails on one day alluded to curbing of crimes which may have roots inside the jails, Singh said, “This cannot be ruled out but these raids is a routine affair and it keeps the jail inmates wary of action in the event of their getting any smarter inside.”
