The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has finally got a new chairman and vice chairman after 124 days. The notification in this connection was issued on Tuesday. State education minister Jagarnath Mahato 38 days back had announced the appointment of Dr. Anil Kumar Mahato, former Pro VC of Vinod Bihari Mahto University as Chairman Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) and Dr. Vinod Singh, teacher of KCB College, as vice-chairman of council. The JAC sees new chairman and vice chairman after 124 days, as on September 14, after the completion of tenure of Chairman Arvind Prasad Singh and vice chairman Phool Singh, the examination body was running headless.

With the appointment of new chairman and vice chairman, now there will be a meeting of the JAC board, in which further decisions will be made regarding the conduct of other examinations including matriculation and intermediate. Also pending works will be done.

Dr. Mahto has also worked as a former controller of examination of Ranchi University and vice-chancellor in Vinod Bihari Mahto Coalanchal University. Vinod Singh was principal in-charge of KCB College Bedo.

Mahto’s name was cleared through a lottery system from the list of three names including Dr Usha Kiran and Dr Shabbir Hussain. Education Minister Jagarnnath Mahto had announced the names of Mahto. Education minister Mahto said that the new chairman has been given all power and the appointment of new chairman will accelerate the pending works of Jharkhand Academic Council. The tenure of the new chairman of JAC will be for three years.

The appointment of two heads at JAC will speed up the pending work of the state examination body as JAC has decided to conduct the first term of board exams for class 10 and class 12 exams, in December 2021. The council has already started preparations for the exams and a detailed date sheet is expected to be released by the end of the week on JAC’s official website jac.nic.in.

Due to non-appointment of JAC heads, the staffs of the examination body were also not getting salaries on time.  JAC employees, including pension holders, were protesting bringing the work of the office to a standstill. They stated that payment of their salary and pension were hindered because the posts of chairman and vice-chairman were vacant.
