Chairman of Jharkhand Academic Council Professor Anand Bhushan paid a surprise visit to evaluation centres for matriculation and intermediate exams in Hazaribagh and Koderma.
His arrived at 11 am in St Columbus College and called District Education Officer RK Singh to reach the inter evaluation centre of Zila School, where he spoke to teachers and took a close look at the evaluation. At Annada College, he found evaluation starts from 12 and so visited Hindu Plus II School and Yadunath Balika Vidyalaya. Everywhere, he heard out teachers and other staffers.
In JJ College of Koderma, he met the centre superintendent and other officers. On his return, he met Vice-Chancellor Dr RN Bhagat and asked him to relieve teachers engaged in evaluation at 10 am so evaluation starts by 11 am. The Vice-Chancellor assured him.
Everywhere, Bhushan appealed to teachers to do the job sincerely and judiciously. He pointed out that every year, about 20 per cent examinees apply for scrutiny, a number he wants to minimise up to 5 per cent. Bhushan’s aim is to bring percentage of scrutiny applications to less than 1 per cent during his tenure.
Such a large number of scrutiny applications are an indication that examinees are losing faith in evaluators, he added. Bhushan emphasised on stepwise marking and stressed that students should not be failed for a mere mark or two. Teachers and staff also put forth their queries before the chairman and Bhushan did his best to give satisfactory replies.
According to him, rates of different heads have been increased this time and evaluators will get more than what they were demanding for the two to three years.
