A positive news has come out for Jharkhand. According to the latest government data, the average literacy rate of the state has now reached 73.85 percent, which takes it ahead of big states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
According to the report of the Union Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, the average literacy rate in the country is 77.5 percent. While the average literacy rate of men is 84.7 percent, the rate of women is 70.3 percent. In Jharkhand, the literacy rate in rural areas is 71 percent and in urban areas it is about 86 percent.
In rural areas, the literacy rate of men is 80.6 percent and that of women is 61.4 percent, while in urban areas these figures are 92.6 percent for men and 78.6 percent for women. Overall, 83 percent of men and 64.7 percent of women in the state are literate.
Jharkhand's urban men have especially achieved a new milestone. Their literacy rate is 92.6 percent, which is higher than the national average of 92.2 percent. The special thing is that this rate has also surpassed states like Delhi and Karnataka. According to the report, Jharkhand has left behind not only neighboring states but also states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in the field of literacy.
Although Jharkhand has made tremendous progress in the literacy rate of men, the challenge of improving the condition of women still remains. The state government and society together need to pay special attention to women's education, so that this balance can be strengthened.
