IVF brings 'baby hope' for Bangladesh couple

Published on:

late marriage can no longer be a hurdle in planning a baby, if one is ready to adopt the latest medical technologies, especially for foreigners in Ranchi. The fact relates to the life of Bangladesh based 46-year-old Narayan Ghosh and his 41-year-old wife Beauty Narayan Ghosh who are presently undergoing treatment at Ranchi’s In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Infertility Research Centre.

In June last year, the couple for the first time visited Ranchi after the assurance of this clinic’s Director Dr Jayashree Bhattacharya at the Kolkata branch that they can have a baby despite their late age. “We were married in 2002 and were unaware about this technique. But, it brought miracle to my niece who was blessed with a son in July 2012. I then encouraged my wife to opt this method. As you can see we are continuously visiting Ranchi to gain a positive response,” Narayan said.

Narayan is a middle class businessman and there are many like him in his country coming India for this purpose. Beauty mentioned, “In our nation this IVF is at primary phase and that too restricted within our nation capital Dhaka. We are from Sirajgonj district where the society is slowly accepting this technique. In any medical facilities, India is the best destination for treatment regarding financial budget, transportation and hospitality.” The couple had earlier tried this IVF process in Ahmedabad but failed to get a positive response. “We are hopeful to get a baby this time as Ranchi’s climate, accommodation and homely medical service is quite suitable,” added Beauty.

On the clinic’s 13th Foundation Day on Thursday, Dr Jayashree highlighted that in the past one year10 per cent foreign couples including countries like Nepal and Bangladesh as well as Europe and Middle East have been blessed with healthy babies in the Ranchi centre. She said, “Here the treatment ranges around Rs 1.20 lakhs which is a reasonable charge for foreigners. In most of the developed countries, people remain in ‘waiting list’ for this IVF. It is this reason that they are turning up to India. We are frequently being approached by Bangladesh patients as they are very much comfortable in India.”

However, she admitted that the medicines of IVF are not of quality standards compared to United States of America and United Kingdom countries. The treatment is most effective between the age of 30 to 36 years. “95 pe cent males can have their own children if they discuss sexual problems with doctors without any hesitation,” said Dr Jayashree. Also she mentioned malnutrition as one of the common reason of Tuberculosis resulting infertility among the people of Jharkhand.
