Since 2002, the R&D Centre for Iron & Steel (RDCIS) of SAIl is designated as the nodal agency for all SAIl Units and Plants for filing patents and copyrights, which are the main intellectual outputs of the organisation. Till date, RDCIS has filed 678 patents and 364 have been granted. Similarly, 508 copyrights have been filed and 453 have been granted. A number of patents have been transferred to public/private industries and institutions and the company has earned over Rs2 crores as royalty.
Due to growing volumes, the need for a company-wide codified policy document outlining the preamble and objectives pertaining to IPR was felt. With this in view, the Business Excellence Area of RDCIS drew up the IPR policy and objectives which would help in strengthening the protection of patents and copyrights from infringement and serve towards striving for excellence.
The document was formally released this morning, by RK Rathi, ED I/c RDCIS at a simple ceremony, in the presence of senior officers of the organisation.
