Inter results: JAC steps ensure good show

Result of Intermediate Science of 2014 examinations must have brought a smile on the faces of officials of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), and Human Resource Development department after the ignominious performance of students of Science stream in previous year’s examination. Students’ performance in 2014 is the best compared to eight previous examinations pointing towards a better show in future as well.

The results were declared today alongwith Intermediate of Commerce which was tad better than previous year.

To the comfort of JAC officials, result in 2014 was nearly double the pass percentage of science stream in previous year. Thanks to some measures taken by JAC, around 63.65 per cent students passed this year compared to a meager 38.28 per cent in 2013. The result is also encouraging for officials of JAC in light of the fact that the science results hovered around 50 per cent for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009) and tanked to the lowest level (30.33 per cent) in 2010 in last eight years.

“We had organized a workshop last year in which we had taken oath from teachers that wherever there is no teacher of a particular subject they will take classes. And, we had prepared facilitators who can take class wherever there is a dearth of teachers,” said Chairman JAC, Anand Bhushan.

Notably, after poor performance in 2013 JAC pulled up teachers and arranged workshops for them to train them as master trainers to work in their respective areas. The master trainers were also asked to illuminate fellow teachers about the need of improving results and ways to achieve the goal. Interestingly, science results in almost all districts save two reached twice the pass percentage of the previous year.

Meanwhile, result of Intermediate of Commerce maintained an upward trend with the result of 2014 examinations being the second best performance of Commerce students in past eight examinations. With 75.83 per cent the result this year missed the best performance since 2006 by a margin of around 3 per cent. Best result for Commerce examinations was 78.53 per cent in 2009.
