Injured tribal woman remains unattended for four days

A woman, belonging to primitive tribe Birhor, came to Sadar Hospital for treatment some days ago. She remained unattended in the hospital for four days. When CPM leader Ganesh Kumar Citu and other social activists came to know of the incident, the hospital management started her treatment.

She had an injury in her leg due to a road accident. Sundari Devi, 45, resident of Piyaritand of Charhi of Churchu block, was admitted in Sadar Hospital after a road accident. She was admitted in the hospital vide registration no. 2213 on May 7. After the admission she was sent to women ward of the hospital. On the bed she was regularly crying due to intolerable pain but no one attended her.

When it came to the knowledge of CPM leader Ganesh Kumar Citu, he immediately rushed to see the Birhor women and tried his best to get her treatment done. He contacted the doctors of the hospital but everyone ignored his request initially. His repeated efforts worked lastly and on Monday the hospital provided traction on her leg. Hospital management came into action and X- ray of SundariBirhor’s leg was taken on May 9 (as per the hospital record of X-ray department) after three days.

When this correspondent tried to contact the civil surgeon, he did notreceived the call. The Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital Dr. SR Dangi flatly denied all the records regarding the treatment of birhor women. He said that we have attended her on first day (May 7). We did the X-ray of birhor women on that day (but record shows May 9). He further said that we are regularly taking careof the birhor women.

The way DS Dangi talked on phone with this correspondent and denied even the entries made in the hospital register is clear enough to tell the fact that how the poor and illiterate patients are behavedat Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh.
