Every department should try to increase the revenue collection in the district so that we can achieve more than the target given to us by the State Government. Theft of tax is a major problem and the concerned departments will have to take some hard steps to stop this practice. It was said by DC Sunil Kumar in a meeting of officials related with the departments directly involved in revenue collection.
To stop tax theft DC gave special directives to the officials of transport, mining and sales tax departments. He ordered to constitute a joined team of district transport officer, district mining officer and district sales tax officer which will start special drive in the colliery areas of the district.
DC directed the officers to launch a massive drive of vehicle checking, against overloaded trucks and illegal mining in colliery and forest areas of the district. If anything is found wrong during the checking charge heavy amount as punishment which will increase the revenue as well as decrease the tax theft, he added.
To the officials weight and measurement department, direction has been given by DC to start special campaign of verifying the weight and measurement tools of even small traders and to charge Rs. 100-150 as registration fee fixed by state government. For PDS shops this registration fee is Rs. 150-200. DC also directed to charge Rs. 1500 per unit to every petrol pumps of the district as registration fee.
In the meeting the fiscal position of municipal council was also tabled for consideration and DC directed the special officer to start fresh survey of the holdings of the council area because last survey was held in 1980-90 and many houses have been built since last 20-25 years without map so their holding tax has not been fixed yet. In the meeting DC directed the special officer to start cleanliness drive in the town in view of rainy season.
In this meeting DC directed the officials of other departments to increase the pace of disposing certificate cases and to create pressure on the debtors so that government can get the revenue as early as possible.
