Incomplete quorum saves Zila Parishad bosses

Zila Parishad chairman Sukra Singh Munda and vice chairman Parvati Devi have managed to save their respective chairs as no confidence motion brought by one of the members Anil Mahto Tiger against both of them was ‘suspended’ on Thursday in Parishad’s meeting, due to incomplete quorum.

Deputy Commissioner and Presiding Officer Manoj Kumar called the no confidence motion against the chairman rejected during meeting on the day in absence of as many as 16 members out of 46 required to complete the quorum. Rejection of the motion made chairs of Zila Parishad bosses for another year, as no such motion can be brought in between as per Zila Parishad laws.

The meeting saw only 30 out of 61 members present in the meeting, including two MPs, Ramtahal Choudhary and Mahesh Poddar and four MlAs CP Singh who is also Urban Development Department Minister, Dr Jeetu Charan Ram, Navin Jaisawal and Gangotri Kujur. Two other MlAs in Parishad Sudesh Mahto and Ram Kumar Pahan were also absent.

Though no confidence motion against vice chairman Parvati Devi was scheduled to be discussed post process of the discussions and voting on chairman, but the proposer for the motion Anil Tiger announced to walk out of the meeting on vice chairman alleging all kinds of irregularities in Zila Parishad.

However, the Motion was destined to be rejected due to absence of members even after he couldn’t have called for the walk out from the process.

Non-movement of no confidence motion against both the bosses of Zila Parishad is said to have left Anil Tiger hit hard, as around two dozen of the Zila Parishad members were learnt engaged in a meeting with the boss of his own party and AJSU MlA Sudesh Mahto.

Baffled Tiger said that he was ready to go extra mile including quitting the party if required, to get the dignity of Zila Parishad restored which, according to him, was torn apart in recent times.

“We had vowed to rise above party politics in Zila Parishad and to serve the people. But few senior leaders of parties started playing politics on petty issues and turned the Zila Parishad battleground of dirty politics. I am sure people will teach absent members a lesson next time,” said Tiger after the meeting concluded.

CP Singh said after the meeting that he had nothing to comment about possible meeting of absent members with any leader. “But non-movement of motion due to absence of members is something not so appreciable. However, the fact is that motion has been rejected due to incomplete quorum,” said Singh.
