Incessant rainfall to breach rain deficit in coming days

The incessant rainfall since past few days may have disturbed the normal course of life across the State but will soon breach the rain deficit bringing much needed respite for the farming community. Ever since the onset of monsoon, the State was reeling under the risk of drought adversely influencing the agro-based businesses and Kharif crops production here.

The weather bulletin released by MET Observatory Centre – Ranchi on Sunday suggested heavy rainfall for the next two days covering almost all parts of the State. According to a MET official, heavy rainfall will primarily cover Central (Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti and Ramgarh) and Northern parts of Jharkhand (latehar, lohardaga, Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra and Koderma) in the coming days.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to cover nearly all districts of the State especially Central and Northern Jharkhand contravening the rain deficit level to a great extent this week. As per MET Ranchi Observatory Centre forecast, the South-West (SW) monsoon is active over the State and due to the formation of upper air circulation, rainfall will occur in different places,” said senior officer, MET Ranchi Observatory Centre, Upendra Srivastava on Sunday.

As per the rainfall statistics released on Sunday by the Observatory Centre, Jharkhand from June 1, 2018 to September 2, 2018 had received 675.5 mm rainfall against the normal 868 mm rainfall. The consolidated rain data further suggested that the rain deficit level from – 40 per cent has come down to -22 per cent.

According to the weathermen and considering the meteorological parameter, if the rainfall level reaches to - 19 per cent, the condition can be termed normal for any region. Following all the criteria of the MET, about 1092 mm rainfall throughout the monsoon season is categorized under normal or above normal category for Jharkhand.

In accordance to the rainfall data prepared from June 1 to September 2, maximum rain deficit was registered in Khunti district with – 62 per cent rain deficit level. Khunti district ever since the beginning of monsoon season has merely registered 379 mm rainfall while 1002.7 mm rainfall is considered normal for the respective district.

Similarly, Pakur, Koderma, and Garhwa districts have also received inadequate rain with the rain deficit level crossing 35 to 40 per cent. Meanwhile, a few districts which include Hazaribagh, latehar, lohardaga, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Simdega have received sufficient rain this monsoon season.
