The police officials were surprised to find the liquor illegally stored in a CCl quarter. Two persons have been arrested, the police said, adding the kingpin of the syndicate was still at large. The arrested have been identified as Sanjay Chauhan and Prem lal Hemrum of Swang area.

The house was closed when the police team raided. However, the officials got inside after breaking open the door and recovered 50 litres of local-made liquor stocked there, said Sakaldeep Singh, an officer in -charge of Gomia police station. He said acting on a tip-off, a team headed by him raided the CCl quarter and recovered huge quantity of local made “mahua” wine. Police said the brew was being supplied to different CCl mines from here. Illicit liquor is in high demand among the workers engaged in collieries and other industries in Bermo.

However, many of these local people who having preparation of such type of wine use dangerous chemicals to ferment mahua and act as a catalyst in the manufacturing process. These chemicals pose a serious health hazard to the workers and many of them are reportedly suffering from diseases, sources said.
