Human skeleton found hanging from tree in Gomia

Published on:

Police on Thursday found a human skeleton hanging from a tree near Swang airport and forest in the Swang forest range of Gomia under the same police station.

Police are yet to establish the identity of the deceased. They have sent the skeleton samples for a DNA test. What has surprised police is that the forest field staff of Swang range failed to notice the body in the area or smell the stink emitted as it decomposed.

According to Officer  in-charge of Gomia police station, Rajesh Ranjan, the skeleton was retrieved on the information of some villagers. The spot where the skeleton was found hanging was around 50 meters deep into Swang airport from Kathara-Gomia link road.

Kumar said it must have taken at least 20 days for the flesh to decompose and expose the skeleton. He ruled any possibility of a carnivore eating the flesh as no bone in the skeleton was missing. Moreover the skeleton was hanging around 4.5 feet above the ground.

Local residents claimed that the body was found about 100 meters from the main jungle track and that is why forest staff failed to spot it earlier.

The officer- in-charge of Gomia police station said the decision to lodge an FIR in the matter would be taken in accordance with the findings of the post- mortem report.
