In a joint operation of Giridih Police and State Excise today illicit liquor worth Rs 72 lakh was confiscated from Chatro area on Giridih-Tundi Road within limits of Muffasil police station in Giridih district. “An informer had messaged SP, Giridih Surendra Kumar Jha that there was illicit liquor stocked in a house in Chatro village,” said SDPO, Jit Wahan Oraon of Giridih.
Sources said that when the police team alongwith State excise officials visited the area, it found 1600 cartons of illicit liquor which were confiscated. The house owner, Dabloo Mandal, managed to flee from the spot, added the SDPO. After seeing the police five or six persons who were present on the spot managed to flee.
The smugglers were planning to take the illicit liquor to either Bihar or Bengal via Dhanbad, sources added.
