Huge jumps in MlAs' assets in last 5 yrs

Published on:

Its may be the highest per cent of jumps in assets of MlAs in Jharkhand amidst poverty.

Uma Kant Rajak, the sitting MlA of Chandankiyari, saw a whopping growth of 3,800 per cent while Bokaro sitting MlA Samresh Singh saw 270 per cent growth in last five years.According to the candidate’s affidavits Rajak saw his assets grow from Rs2 lakh in 2009 to Rs78 lakh this year (3,800 per cent) while Samresh Singh shown his total asset as Rs40 lakh (in 2009) now jumped to Rs 1.08 crore.

In 2009, Rajak won the Assembly elections on AJSU ticket from Chandankiyarai and first time became the MlA. Rajak received 36,620 votes and defeated Amar Kumar Bauri (33,103 votes) of JVM (P). Chandankiyari having population of 230,238 belongs to Dhanbad parliamentary constituency (a town in Bokaro district), reserved for Scheduled Castes.

According to the affidavit filed by him, Rajak had only Rs2 lakhs assets, now have Rs10.72 lakhs bank balance, lands of worth of Rs12 lakshs including other assets of Rs78 lakhs. For a very short tenure Rajak was labour Minister in coalition Government of Jharkhand. Rajak again filed his nomination as AJSU candidate from Chandankiyari constituency under seat-sharing pact with BJP.

While Singh who remained MlA for five times from Bokaro constituency, of which he won thrice as an Independent, again quit from BJP and filed his nomination as Independent candidate on Tuesday.

Singh, who had changed more than seven parties in his political career, now announced to contest independently from Bokaro assembly seat. Singh won 2009 Asembly election on JVM (P) ticket from Bokaro Assembly constituency.Few months earlier he left JVM (P) with other five JVM legislators and joined the BJP. Denied ticket from BJP, Singh announced before the media to quit from BJP and to contest Assembly election independently from Bokaro Assembly seat.

Five-time Bokaro’s MlA - Singh started his career with BJP but later quit as party denied ticket to him. Then he shakes hands with Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), BSP (Bahujan Samajwadi Party) after that. After few months he made his own party JVC and continued till he lost the assembly election in 2005 from Bokaro. In the year 2009 Singh joined Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (P) but later in 2013, demanding a key post he shake the party; along with fiver legislator Singh quit JVM (P) in August 2014 and again join BJP and again quit in November.

Besides two there are too many MlA’s in the state who’s assets saw a huge jump in last five years but most of the residents of the state are living in the dearth of all basic amenities.Jharkhand is richest in mineral wealth. As the warehouse of 40 per cent of the nation’s minerals, the State has been an instant draw with some of the biggest names in the domestic and global corporate turf. But the state has continuously been sliding down the growth ladder after separation from Bihar.

Amidst nature’s unlimited bounties and blessings Jharkhand a rich state inhabited by poor people; tragic cases of poverty and backwardness (industrial as well as agricultural) since after 14 years of its birth.
