Huge irregularities in sewerage project, allege Mahesh Poddar

Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Mahesh Poddar has written to Urban Development Minister CP Singh seeking urgent action in the alleged irregularities in sewerage-drainage project in the Ranchi Municipal Corporation area.

Poddar has raised questions on the irregularities and unscientific ways of the implementation of the project and has said that he had earlier also complained in writing to the Chief Secretary and Town Commissioner of the RMC. He has stated that the issues raised in the letters written earlier have not been negated by anyone and thus it is clear that there is major execution problem in the project. And, despite this the responsible people are not being identified, no action is being taken against them and the implementing agency is being paid the funds regularly, he said.

The MP said that it appears clear that the people implementing the project are being patronised by some powerful people. He expressed concerned that the way the responsible people are being spared and the agency is being paid, the project may prove to be a disaster just like the Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway project. He said that he would be really happy if someone proves him wrong.

Giving details of the irregularities of the project Poddar said that the basic work of the project – setting up of the Sewerage Treatment Plant-- has not been done but pits have been dug on road across the Capital City. “Compacting has not been done anywhere as per the set estimates and in the near future when the roads will cave in it will be a real disaster. People of the RMC have accepted that proper curing has not been done after levelling of the roads and common people are saying that curing has not been done anywhere. So, the future of the road is uncertain. If this happens then the project will be doomed and the government will attract bad name,” he said adding that the people’s money will be wasted and the government will have to face people’s wrath.

The MP has also marked the letter to Secretary, Department of Town Development and Housing, Mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation, Deputy Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner.
