In occassion of World Dog lovers’ Day, Humane Society International (HSI) gave free health check-ups to 80 pet dogs and community dogs and provided a Doggy Care Kit that included a feeding bowl, a leash, Notix Powder and shampoo to pet owners in Jamshedpur. The event was organised with the support of HSI's local partners Animal Help Foundation, Jusco and Tata Motors.
Rahul Segal, director, HSI Asia said, "We value the support that dog lovers give to communities - they are a reminder that it is possible to have an inclusive world for both humans and animals. Treating so many dogs and speaking with so many people who love them today was motivational for our teams and a memory that will take us through tough days - that there is still a lot of love for dogs - pets or community owned."
HSI's team of pet care specialists visited different areas in the city and also held a day long camp at the Baridhi clinic in Jamshedpur. HSI Asia also organized World Dog lover's Day in Bhutan, Nepal and the Philippines.
World Dog lovers' Day is intended to remind people that dogs are our companions and to reflect on cruelty that occurs against man's best friend. Sponsored by World Dog Alliance, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, the groups established the observance to raise awareness about the Asian dog meat trade and to recognize the important role that dogs play in improving human health.
Neeraj Kumar, HSI's representative in Jamshedpur said, "Our team enjoyed meeting and interacting with people and dogs from the community on a one on one basis. It was a great way to mark this day of celebration for people and their dogs, and we hope the message of care and companionship resonates with dog lovers throughout the year."
