Taking prompt action over the academic issues faced by students of Yogoda Satsang Balika Vidyalaya, a minority school of JAC in Club Road which led to the protest of parents in the premises on Tuesday, the State HRD department has decided to enquire the matter.According to parents more than 650 students studying in the school from class 1 to 10 are bound to study in a suffocated ambience. Instead of six hours, classes are run for seven hours. Moreover, a subject on Value Education has been added in the routine, they said.
“The student’s strength in each class is more than 70. There is lack of benches, wherein one bench accommodates five students with their bags. They often faint or are hospitalized. Earlier, classes were run from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Now, they are carried from 8 am to 3 pm. We have requested the concerned Swamijis of the school several times to restrict the time till 2 pm as girls hail from far off areas,” said a teacher. The school has received more than dozens of letters from parents to seek a solution to the daily problems. Krishna Kumar Paswan whose daughter is in class fourth and Bina Devi whose daughter is in class fifth are among those guardians. They have requested the School Principal to reduce the school timing as their children walk distance and reach home by evening hours.
Sources said that earlier classes for Science and Social Science were held from standard 1 to 3 and Sanskrit was taught from class fourth onwards. “Now, Sanskrit is taught from class 6 and Science-Social Science subjects have been removed. It is difficult to teach students Value Education including 10 minutes meditation. What is the use of teaching a subject in all classes whose exam will not be conductedIJ” said a teacher.Students complained of breathing problems sitting the congested class for hours. “Whenever there is power cut, we feel like puking,” said laxmi Singh, a student of class 6.The issue was conveyed to HRD Secretary Aradhana Patnaik. She assured to check the matter at her level.
