State Government is set to commence special coaching classes for school and college goers. The Human Resource Development (HRD) Department is aiming to commence the free-of-cost coaching classes from 2015-16 academic session. It is a first of its kind initiative taken in Jharkhand.

Matriculation passed students will receive coaching on intermediate subjects and entrance exams of various undergraduate courses. Meanwhile, students of the State universities can avail the same for success in job based competitive exams.

Secretary of the Department, Aradhana Patnaik said, “As of now, the budget for both the phases is being planned out. We will rope in teachers from local schools and universities on payment basis. The classes are likely to function from the month of April or May.”

“Each district headquarter has been marked for school level coaching centre. Whereas, one such room in each five state universities including Ranchi University (RU), Kolhan University (KU), Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU), Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) and Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) will be located,” added Patnaik. However, the government is yet to decide the seat limit and batch of students for both the phases.

Asked on how the government will ensure regular classes for the coaching, Patnaik pointed on the discussions with Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) and state universities. “It will be open for students of all categories.

School teachers who have recently attended a workshop of National Council of Educational Research and Training will be invited here. Districts lacking teachers will be provided teachers from other districts. Faculty members of university departments will be requested to take the classes,” she said.

Sources maintained students at the university centre will be given coaching on Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), National Eligibility Test (NET), Banking and Accountancy.

“The matriculation passed students in district headquarter centre will be guided on Arts, Science and Commerce subjects taught at intermediate level. Also, they can prepare for undergraduate entrance examinations like medical and engineering,” confirmed official sources.

The announcement seems a ray of hope for youngsters. Anita Toppo, a final year Master of Arts (MA) Hindi student of RU said, “I hail from a slum area and it is not possible for my parents to fulfill my aspirations. Government’s decision to start coaching centres for competitive exams will help in fulfilling my dream of becoming an IAS officer.”
