Making the voters remember his single-handed battle against corruption, mayoral candidate Durga Oraon expressed hope that he would be getting support similar to that. He also stressed over his relevance in the urban body polls terming the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) a hub of corruption.

Addressing mediapersons on Thursday Durga Oraon said his mere presence in the urban body would help people in overcoming corruption. “I have got good results of my fight against corruption so far. People have been supporting my struggle then and they would continue to do so even today. Everyone knows that corruption starts from RMC. The support to me would be to root out pervasive corruption,” said Oraon.

The Pioneer has reported that the whistleblower, who has been instrumental in exposing massive corruption in the Government that sent heavyweights like Madhu Koda and his associates in jail, is struggling to manage funds to remain in the contest. When asked about this, Oraon said he had not put any hording around the city in the want of money.

“I do not have funds in comparison with other candidates, neither backing of any political party. What I have is the faith of people on me,” he said. Accompanying him was noted Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajeev Kuamar who termed Durga Oraon a symbol of common man.

“Durga Oraon is a common man and every voter can associate with him. He has been fighting for common men problems and his fight would continue. His effort is to draw a new line parallel to what has been in place for last 65 years. His struggle is for overhauling the system and with his electoral debut the struggle would march only ahead,” said Rajeev Kumar.

He also added that the contest would prove that how a common man can fight without the help of money, booth management or other electoral tactics. Rajeev Kumar also expressed hope that attacking attitude of Durga Oraon would continue in the future as well.

Voting for the municipal elections is due on April 8. 14 candidates are into the fray for mayoral post of the RMC, including the incumbent Mayor Rama Khalko.
